Forrest Kirkland aspired to publish his artwork and notes on Texas Rock Art in a book. Before his death, he and his wife Lula created a mock-up for the book with the cover shown here. W.W. Newcomb's book, The Rock Art of the Texas Indians, used many of the design elements that Kirkland created with this mock-up.
