Pictograph of a deer on the ceiling of Deer Shelter, located in southwestern Culberson County north of Van Horn. The deer is painted in white, a pigment somewhat rarely used in the region. It is depicted in death with its mouth open, and may be related to hunting magic. It is the only pictograph in this shelter, which is lacking in the type of cultural residue normally found in occupied shelters of the region. Photo by Andy Cloud.
