This fallow agricultural field resembles, at least superficially, the natural and Caddo-made "pocket" prairies that early Anglo settlers found in many parts of the Caddo Homeland. Like the Caddo, the settlers favored such clearings for farming. The Caddo also sought out tall-grass prairie remnants to harvest grass for thatch.
