This page from the 1895 Montgomery Ward Catalog shows some of the many types of guns that could be purchased by mail order. To people in the 1890s, ordering from a catalog must have been like ordering online today, except much slower. They would have to send a letter through the mail with their order, then wait for the order to be processed and mailed or shipped to them.
