Tiny hooks and eyes were used for fastening dresses and blouses. The small hook was sewed on one side of the clothing item and a matching eye was sewn on the other side. The hook would pass through the eye to hold the garment together securely. As shown in the 1895 Montgomery Ward Catalog, you could buy a card of two dozen for a nickle!
