These are some of the eating utensils and fragments of a fancy blue and white flowered dinner plate found at the site. Archeologists pieced together the plate fragments and studied the mark on the back of the plate, a globe with the name Alfred Meakin, England. This was an important clue to determine how old the plate is. Alfred Meakin pottery did not print the name England on the back of its china until 1897. Even small marks like these are important clues to help establish when something was made and where! They also learned from catalogs that the pretty blue and white floral design is called, Kenwood.
