The clothing components shown here are from boots or shoes. The small brass rings (a) are eyelets used for lacing up boots or shoes. The small nails (b) were used to secure shoe heels and soles. The last specimens (c) are clamped lace hooks that would have been attached to the upper portion of a high-top shoe or boot. It may be presumed that the Williams family used, wore out, and discarded many pairs of shoes in their three decades of living on the farm, especially work boots.
