This photograph is at the very edge of the mound. The upper dirt is slopewash from erosion of the mound. Below that is one of the first mound layers (Zone 27) resting on the original ground surface (Zone 16). At the right edge is an area that was burned (Zone 34), perhaps in a ceremony that happened at the very beginning of creation of the mound.
