Born in 1877 in the Seminole-Negro Indian village near Fort Clark, Jefferson enlisted in the regular Army and served as a Buffalo Soldier in the 10th Cavalry. In 1905, he joined the scouts at Fort Clark, serving until his unit was disbanded. He then returned to the 10th Cavalry for service in the World War. Image courtesy of William Warrior.
