Rare example of Rockport Polychrome pottery from the Kirchmeyer site (41NU11) on Oso Bay. The lower portion of this small jar is covered with asphaltum paint as is a fine solid line accentuating the lip. Just below the asphaltum-painted rim is a band of “fugitive red,” probably traces of a thin ochre pigment paint. This decorative technique may have been inspired by Huasteca pottery along the Gulf coast of southern Tamuliapas, Mexico. TARL Collections, drawing adapted from Calhoun 1964.
