The buffalo hide market, centered in the Fort Griffin area during the 1870s, brought a booming business to the Conrad and Rath store at The Flat. It supplied hunters, ranchers, soldiers, and townspeople with everything from food to calico cloth during the town's heyday. The two owners also maintained a store at the post.
