| Courthouse in Albany, county
seat of Shackleford County. The longer-term residents of Shackelford County
looked down on the rowdy transients inhabiting "The Flat" below
Fort Griffin, and established the county seat at the competing town of Albany.
The impressive courthouse, built in 1884, reflects the prosperity that was
anticipated by area ranchers and merchants even after the Army abandoned
Fort Griffin. |
