Native peoples continued many of their traditional skills while living in the missions, although they learned to make chipped-stone gunflints for Spanish guns. The two bone awls at left (fragments), typically used for sewing or weaving various materials, were perhaps rendered obsolete by European looms on which the neophytes learned to produce cotton cloth.
